How to sell an online textbook
A brand-new textbook on Chinese history from an online publisher has received more than a quarter of a million hits since it was launched last week, with the authors selling it for more than $5,000.
In the last two months, the publisher, Nanfang Group, has sold more than 400,000 copies of The China History Encyclopedia, a work that promises to make students and teachers of all levels of expertise familiar with China’s past, present and future.
The new book has been downloaded more than 15 million times, with more than 8.5 million unique visitors visiting its website each month.
The book has already been downloaded by more than 12 million people, making it the most downloaded textbook in history, according to the Nanfeng Group website.
The publisher said the book was initially developed as a “quick-start” for students who are interested in learning Chinese history but wanted to expand their knowledge further.
The book also comes with its own curriculum, as well as an interactive website and video lectures, all of which have attracted millions of downloads and comments.
Nanfang said the online edition of the book will be available in the coming weeks.
The Nanfans website offers details on how to access the textbook, and the company said it will be launching the online version in April.
The company said the books will be “a real opportunity for students, teachers and parents to explore Chinese history with a modern, contemporary approach.”
The NanFang Group said it hopes to attract more users to the book as it grows in popularity, with around one million people viewing the NanFeng website every month.
Nancy Ng, a professor of Chinese history at Yale University, said the company was aiming to create a platform for learning Chinese literature and history, as part of a larger effort to promote Chinese history online.
“They have created a platform that will allow the Chinese community to learn more about China’s history, and hopefully it will inspire others to learn as well,” she said.
“I think that it’s really exciting for the Chinese society to be able to learn about Chinese history on a global scale,” said Ng.
“This is really exciting.”
The Nanfangs online edition is not the first time the company has launched a textbook for students and parents.
In August, it launched a digital textbook called China History: History in Pictures for students aged 12 and over.
Nanfanch is also one of the largest online publishers in the world, with books published in more than 100 languages, including German, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Chinese, Russian and Russian-inspired novels.
“NanFang has a lot of resources and expertise behind it,” said the author, who requested anonymity.
“It’s the only online publisher with the capacity to make a textbook like this.
The amount of data they have is huge, and they can make the textbooks very easily accessible.”
The company plans to continue publishing books on Chinese subjects, and said it is looking to expand its range of titles.
“There’s a lot to be learnt in the history of China,” said Nanfanga Group chairman and CEO Zhang Jian.
“We want to continue building a library of books on China, on its past, on the future and on its future.
We also want to explore China’s culture and society.”
